Perhaps the next two volumes will be more focused and exciting. However, by the book’s close, he’s no closer to Jerusalem than he was when he was born (though a lot of colorful medieval Swedish history has been presented). The first book in the series focuses on the development of the main character's spiritual and military growth while his love interest marks his growth from a boy to a man.
